There are two afternoon race meetings at Brighton and Hamilton today and we’ve picked out a few selections we think can bring us some winnings.
Hamilton
In the 2:45 race we’re going for the David Nicholls trained Metro land to come out on top. If this were a handicap Metroland would be giving weight away all round, but in this claimer she carries bottom weight and looks set to win. The 2/1 (Bluesq) on offer looks a good price.
Mark Johnston has a great strike rate here and around 45% of his horses are placed. Step Fast is priced at 8/1 in the 4:15 race (William Hill) and looks well worth an each/way bet. The horse finished fourth on the course over a furlong shorter last time out and the extra furlong today could see some improvement. We’d be surprised if Step Fast didn’t finish in the first three and we think there’s every chance the horse will win.
The 5:15 race looks a pretty open affair and we’re going to take a chance on Blow Your Mind each/way. The horse hasn’t been seen since last August and steps up from racing over 5furlongs to 6f today. With underfoot conditions likely to suit a small stake at 20/1 (Stan James) each/way can get us a return.
In the last race at 5:45 we’re tipping Mark Johnston’s newcomer Curlew to be the winner. The main danger here could be Jeunopse who has looked a decent prospect in her two runs so far and she should run another decent race. With the Johnston stable saddling plenty of winners debutant Curlew 9/4 (Bluesq) is going to be our choice.
Brighton
In the opener at 2:30 we’re having an each/way bet on Ile Royale. He’s shown promise in his two runs for his new trainer S Kittow (who had a big price winner yesterday) and at 20/1 (Betfred) can be placed at least.
You can’t oppose Rocky’s Pride in the 3:00 race and at 4/5 (Stan James) is worth a bet. We think the Marcus Tregoning trained Marsool 15/2 (Betfred) could be the one for forecasts. The stable has been going through a quiet spell but there are signs that their horses are beginning to come to hand now and second place is not asking too much.
Penang Cinta 7/4 (William Hill) won last time out and with a 6lb penalty could be worth opposing in the 4:30 race. The horse we’re going for is Rough Sketch. He isn’t one of Sir Mark Prescott’s leading light’s but he is capable of winning at this level and at 7/1 (Sportingbet) should give us a run for our money.
